An automation runs an action when something happens. You can use the same entities you see in HA Link.
1

Open Automations

Go to Settings → Automations & scenes. Select Create automation → Create new automation.
2

Choose when it runs

Add a trigger under When, such as a time or a supported entity changing state. Start with one simple trigger.
3

Choose what happens

Under Then do, add an action supported by your entity. For example, choose a light’s turn-on action and select that light as the target.
4

Save the automation

Select Save and give it a clear name. Leave it enabled so Home Assistant can respond to its trigger.
5

Check it works

Cause the trigger to happen and check the device’s response. Open the automation’s trace if you need to see which steps ran.
Your connected entity can now take part in Home Assistant automations.
Some entities only report a reading. Use those as triggers or conditions, and choose a controllable entity for an action.
